“Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.” – Albert Einstein
This quote has stuck with me ever since I discovered it in Tim Ferriss’s book The 4-Hour Workweek. The idea that reality is just an artificial human construct had never occurred to me.
No one can fully understand the true nature of reality, because we all see reality through our individual lenses. Most of those lenses are borrowed from others.
Differences in Reality
Reality to a child is completely different than reality to an adult. As we develop, our brains assign meaning to what we witness in the external world.
Using psychedelics, individuals see reality in a completely new way, experiencing altered states of consciousness.
Daily Consciousness
While we go through our daily lives, it’s easy to assume that others are having a similar experience. In reality, they are perceiving the world in a very different way.
End Thoughts
I find it very powerful to come back to Einstein’s quote from time to time to open up my mind.
Next time you go out in public, look at the people around you and ask yourself “How are they experiencing reality right now?”.
